Abstract: Mainstream International Relations theory measures state power in material terms: military capability, economic weight, and territorial control. This paper argues that such accounts overlook a distinct and consequential domain of power, namely the capacity of a political community to produce, store, and authorise its own knowledge. Drawing on Boaventura de Sousa Santos's concept of epistemicide, it examines the destruction of knowledge systems as an object of security analysis.
