Title | : | Genetic estimates and diversity study in Sesame(Sesamum indicum L.) |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | Adil Iqbal || Rumana Akhtar || Tamina Begum || Tapash Dasgupta |
ABSTRACT: Genetic estimates and diversity of 33 genotypes sesame representing different eco-geographical regions were studied for number of morphological characters. Wide variation in plant habit (plant height and branching pattern), number of capsules per plant, number of seeds per capsule, mean seed weight, and yield per plant was recorded. The estimates of genotypic coefficient of variation (GCV) were less than its corresponding estimates of PCV for seed yield and yield component, exhibiting consistency in environmental interaction for character expression.........

Title | : | Thermic Modeling of Unheated Tunnel - Greenhouse |
Country | : | Tunisia |
Authors | : | F. Sahbani || A. Chbeb || E. Ferjani |
ABSTRACT: as a farmer in the field of the tomato culture under greenhouse in the north of Tunisia, we encounter major problems of heating, air-conditioning and diseases in particular the mildew. As a remedy to these problems, a physical model, based on analysis of the assessment of energy, is developed to estimate the requirement in heating for agricultural greenhouse tunnel. Another model based on the climatic data makes it possible to estimate the relation between the temperature and the relative humidity inside the greenhouse with an aim of fighting against the disease of the mildew thanks to ventilation. In other term, a compromise between the temperature and the relative humidity inside the greenhouse must be established.

Title | : | Influence of Nature of Gene action in Sugarcane Germplasm accessions for yield and Quality Traits |
Country | : | India |
Authors | : | M. Charumathi || N.V. Naidu |
ABSTRACT: A large diverse sugarcane germplasm is essential for sustained crop improvement. high heritability values were recorded for cane length, brix per cent, sucrose per cent and CCS per cent revealed the existence of narrow range of variability indicated the operation of non additive gene action in the inheritance of the characters. moderate estimates of GCV, PCV, GAM and heritability values were recorded for NMC and cane Yield indicated the importance of additive gene action in inheritance of the characters. The promising accessions could be utilized in the breeding programmes to develop high yielding genotypes for different traits.

Title | : | Functional properties of flour and starch from two cultivars of aerial yam (Dioscorea bulbifera) in South East Nigeria |
Country | : | Nigeria |
Authors | : | Ojinnaka, M.C || Odimegwu, E.N || Ilechukwu, R. |
ABSTRACT: The functional properties and nutrient compositions of flour and starch from two cultivars of aerial yam (Dioscorea bulbifera) from south eastern Nigeria were investigated. Flour and starch were produced from two cultivars (purple and white) of aerial yam. The results of the proximate analysis showed that, the starch extract from the purple and white cultivars had relatively low values for fat ( 0.52% and 0.49%), protein (0.81% and 0.13%), and ash (0.44% and 0.48%) as compared to the aerial yam flour. Crude fiber was not detected in the starch extracts. The starch extracts from the purple and white cultivars had highest carbohydrate content values of 91.92% and 92.92% respectively.........

ABSTRACT: Mycotoxins are secondary metabolites produced by fungi. There are evidence that mycotoxins cause pathologies including growth reduction in aquatic species. Experiments were carried out to determine the effects of fumonisin B1 (FB1) on haematology and growth performance of Heterobranchuslongifilis catfish. Fifteen 1,000 L capacity tanks divided into five groups made of three replicates each were stocked with 30 juvenile fish and fed diets amended with varying concentrations of FB1 (0.0 mg FB1/kg; 10.0 mg FB1/kg; 20.0 mg FB1/kg; 40.0 mg FB1/kg and 80.0 mg FB1/kg). At time points 7; 14; 28 and 56 days of feeding, the fish were randomly sampled from each tank, weighed........

ABSTRACT: This study was geared towards investigating the prevalence of gastrointestinal parasites of hunting dogs in Maiduguri, Borno state, Nigeria. A total of 250 feacal samples were collected per rectum. The parasites were determined using formol ether and floatation concentration methods. An overall prevalence of 38% for gastrointestinal infection was recorded. The prevalence was higher in young 39(48.1%) than adults 56(33.1%). The prevalence in relation to sex shows that males had a higher prevalence 42(40.8%) than the females 56(33.1%). The prevalence of infection according to sex and age was statistically not significant (p < 0.05). This study provides evidence that gastrointestinal parasitic infection are prevalent in hunting dogs in the study area with some of the infections being zoonotic a public health risk to man........

ABSTRACT: This investigation was carried out to assess the relationships between two Capparis sp. (Capparis Cartilaginea and Capparis Spinosa). Molecular markers Random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) and the inter-simple sequences repeat (ISSR) markers technique were used to determine the genetic relationships between two Capparis sp. The results suggest that a RAPD marker is the best choice for the evaluation of diversity and the genetic relationships between two Capparis sp.........

ABSTRACT: The pattern movement and age structure influence of rice cultivation phases on A. femina aquatic organisms was investigated in the Manik Rambung rice field (MRRF) ecosystem in North Sumatra. A. femina collections of a buterfly net samples were collected in five cultivation phases (fallow, plough, transplanting-young, tiller, mature atau preharvest). Agriocnemis femina adult (Odonata:Zygoptera), one of the rice pest predators in the adult stage, was dependent on its interactions with rice cultivation phases. There were three age classes of A. femina; teneral, juvenile and mature with sex ratio male and female is 1.7:1. It was important in regulating Agriocnemis femina population in MRRF which determined its successful emergence to a predatory adult..........
