Abstract: This study was carried out with an objective to investigate the antibacterial and antifungal potential of Bark and leaves of Cordia macleodii Hook. Antibacterial activity of Ethanolic extracts of the Bark and leaves was carried out against four bacteria – Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, Comamonas testosteroni and Pseudomonas plecoglossicida. The antifungal activity of the extracts was evaluated on three common pathogenic fungi Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus niger and Candida albicans. The testing was done by the agar plate method. Zones of inhibition of extracts were compared with that of different standard like Ciprofloxacin for antibacterial activity and fluconazole for antifungal activity. The extracts showed antibacterial and antifungal activities comparable with that of standard against the organisms tested. Only bark extract of Cordia macleodii Hook showed positive results for two bacteria Comamonas testosteroni and Pseudomonas plecoglossicida out of all tested. The percentage inhibition value were found to be in range of 6mm to 9mm aginst Pseudomonas plecoglossicida and 7mm at the concentration of 100mg/ml of extract against Comamonas testosteroni but the other two concentration 50 and 25mg/ml showed no effect. The results showed that the inhibition of the bacterial growth was more pronounced on Pseudomonas plecoglossicida and Comamonas testosteroni as compared to the other tested organisms. The extract did not show the antifungal activity against all tested fungus.

Abstract: Envenomation resulting from snake bite is an important public health problem in tropical countries like Southeast Asia and throughout Indian subcontinent. Snake bite is associated with myriad of complications that can be life threatening .We hereby report a 23 year old countryman who was bitten by Russell's viper and was treated with antivenom and other medications. Although he recovered from the acute effects, he remained feeling unwell and was diagnosed one month later with hypopituitarism, an unusual complication of endocrine system. Replacement started with essential hormones such as hydrocortisone and Levo-Thyroxine. Keywords: Hypopituitarism, Russell's viper.

Abstract: The aim of the following research was to formulate benzyl benzoate in emulgel form and to evaluate the release of the medicament from it. Emulgel containing 25% w/w of benzyl benzoate was prepared by addition of a gelling agent; Carbopol 934 to an emulsion using Span 80 as emulsifying agent. The release of benzyl benzoate was determined by Franz diffusion cell using cellulose acetate membrane for a period of five hours at 32°C. Benzyl benzoate was analyzed by ultra-violet (UV) Spectrophotometer at 256 nm. The prepared formula of benzyl benzoate emulgel proved to be more efficient than other externally applied topical preparations as lotion, ointment and gel.

Abstract: In developing countries, an extensive use of insecticides to meet with increased agricultural needs is inevitable and the indiscriminate use and misuse of insecticides results in acute poisoning of the biosystems. The sublethal toxicity of the insecticide Ekalux on the fingerlings of Labeo rohita was evaluated to determine its effect on the haematological values. The acute and sublethal toxicity of the insecticide "Ekalux" on the fingerlings of Labeo rohita was evaluated to determine its effect on the haematological values. The fish was exposed to varying levels of the toxicant concentrations using static bioassay to determine the median lethal concentration.

Abstract: An attempt had been made to develop a low cost Ready to UseSupplementary Formula (RUSF) using kitchen waste such as jackfruit seed, watermelon seed, drumstick leaves and fish bone for lower income group of people in India. The objective of this research work is to check the physiological effect of RUSF on albino rats. Eighteen male Wister albino rats having body weight from 70-80 gm were divided into control and treated group. Control group was fed on stock diet and treated group was given RUSF for 28 days. Overall growth pattern, serum glucose, protein, calcium, liver glycogen and liver protein levels were almost similar in both groups without any significant difference. No significant difference was found in serum SGPT, SGOT and ALP levels, indicating normal liver function in both groups

Abstract: α-Latrotoxin is a black widow spider (Latrodectus mactans) venom toxin causing massive neurotransmitter release. Venomous animals use a highly complex cocktails of proteins, peptides and small molecules to subdue and kill their prey. Structure–function studies of spider toxins are leading to the discovery of novel therapeutic routes for neuromuscular diseases, pain and to a variety of other pathological conditions.

Abstract: The kinetics of the alcoholysis-polycondensation of cottonseed oil (COSO), glycerol (GL), phthalic anhydride (PA), Maleic anhydride (MA) and Succinic acid (SA) leading to the formation of alkyd resins were investigated. Three grades of alkyd samples formulated to have oil content of 50% were prepared with COSO, GL, PA (I), MA (II) and SA (III) respectively. The extent of polycondensation was monitored by measuring the volume of water of esterification evolved, determining the pH and acid value of aliquots of the reaction mixture at various intervals of time.

Abstract: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect Sereny test caused by Candida albicans in experimental induced ulcer in rabbit.Corneal ulcer was induced by superficially inoculated with 100μl of C. albicans containing1.5×108 CFU and dropped on left eye with sterilized PBS was topically applied to right eye in 50 rabbits .These animals were divided equally into two groups .The first group with nontreated with cyclophosphamide andsecondgrouptreatedwith cyclophosphamide (immunosuppressed) Seven days later corneas photographed and animals killed . After sacrificing the corneas of animals underwent routine histopathological examination on the day 1st, 3rd,7th days after inoculation.

Abstract: This work evaluated Al, Ca, Cl, Cr, K, Mg, Sb and Ti levels in capsules and tablets of the formulated and industrialised antihypertensive enalapril maleate and amlodipine besylate drugs used systematically. The neutron activation analysis was applied using the k0-standardization method. The accuracy was checked with certified materials. The detection limits ranged from 0.01 μg capsule-1 for Cr and Sb and 0.01 μg tablet-1 for Mg, Sb and Ti, and 400 μg capsule-1 to 1000 μg tablet-1 for Ca. In the 63 analysed samples, the element levels ranged from 0.064±0.005 μg tablet-1 for Sb and 36.2±4.5 mg tablet-1 for Ca. In formulated capsules, the levels varied between 0.010±0.001 μg capsule-1 for Sb to 30.5±1.1 mg capsule-1 for Mg.

Abstract: In this study, thenon-polar light petroleum ether anddiethyl ether extractsof date palm (Phoenixdactylifera L.)Pollen wereanalyzed by Gas chromatography–mass spectroscopy (GC-MS) and found to be rich withlipids and steroids. Fatty acids include Palmitic acid 38.52% and Hydnocarpic acid 44.23% while α-Sitosterol was the most prevalent Phytosterol14.40%. Un-saponifiable fraction and saponifiable fraction of Pet. ether and DEE extracts were screened for their in vitro antimicrobial activities against six bacterial species (Escherichia coli, Klebsiella species, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Bacillus cereus, Micrococcus luteus and Staphylococcus aureus).

Abstract: With the intention to achieve the best therapeutic outcomes, dose adaptation underpins the clinical practice by tailoring dose and time in order to maximize efficacy while minimizing toxicity. Depending on the drug properties and the clinical context, three successive levels of dose adaptation can be considered, i.e., approaches based on population, group and individual. To make a rational choice for the dose adaptation level and determine the best drug regimens, we here propose a modeling and simulation strategy based on the platform provided by the population pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic methodology at population and group levels. In order to compare the performance of different dose and time schedules, we introduced probabilistic conceptualized time- and concentration-based therapeutic indicators.

Abstract: The study was aimed at assessing the genetic variation and relatedness among four Capsicum varieties through electrophoretic separation of their leaf and seed proteins by sodium dodecyl sulphate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE). Total seed and leaf proteins were extracted and separated on 12% polyacrylamide gels using standard protocols. Distinct polymorphism in electrophoretic banding patterns of seed and leaf proteins was observed in the four Capsicum varieties through a total of thirty-eight (38) polypeptide bands in the seeds and a total of seventeen (17) polypeptide bands in the leaves analyzed. Variation existed not only in the number of bands but also in the intensity of bands in both the leaf and seed samples studied. Sokal and Sneath's coefficient of similarity revealed a generally high level of similarity in the seed protein bands of the four varieties studied ranging from 50% to 100%.

Abstract: First, second and third instar larvae of the blowfly, Chysomya chloropyga collected from laboratory stock were exposed to a mixture of ground rice and fish supplemented with 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 10 % concentrations of neem seed (NS) and neem seed kernel(NSK) powders respectively.Twenty pairs of laboratory-reared adult males and females were also maintained separately on diets treated with 1, 2, 4, 6 and 10% NS and NSK for survival, longevity, fecundity and progressive weights of adult male and female at 5-day interval.

Abstract: In-vitro culture stress might result in breakdown of control mechanisms causing instability of the genome in tissue cultured plantlets and hence these plantlets have to be subjected to assessment of genetic fidelity. We have used a DNA based molecular marker to assess the genetic stability of in - vitro regenerated Decalepis hamiltonii. The nodal explant responded satisfactory in terms of growth related traits when inoculated in the MS medium supplemented with BA(0.886mg/l)+2ip(0.24mg/l). When screened with 12 Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD) primers, it produced clear reproducible and scorable bands. All banding profiles from micropropagated plants were monomorphic and similar to that of the mother plant. This study is of high significance as these could be commercially utilized for large scale production of true-to-type plantlets in D. hamiltonii.
