Abstract: new symmetrical carbonohydrazide derivative, (1E,5E)-1,5-bis(1-hydroxypropan-2-ylidene)carbonohydrazide (I), was synthetized by one-step condensation reaction. The structure of this new compound was confirmed by elemental analysis, infrared, UV-Visible and 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy techniques. The compound (I) crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pbca with the following unit cell parameters a = 11.5576 (1) Å, b = 12.6971 (1) Å, c = 13.5932(2) Å, V = 1994.78(4) Å3, Z = 8, R1 = 0.043 and wR2 = 0.131. In the structure numerous intermolecular hydrogen bonds which consolidate the structure into three dimensional network were observed.
